Growing Basil Indoors: A Beginner's Guide

Select a Container
Choose a pot with drainage holes and sufficient depth for root growth.
Soil
Use well-draining potting mix with good aeration.
Seeds or Transplants
You can start from seeds or purchase young basil plants from a nursery.
Sunlight
Place your indoor basil in a spot with at least 6-8 hours of sunlight per day. A south-facing window is ideal.
Watering
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top inch of soil to dry before watering again.
Temperature
Basil thrives in warm conditions. Maintain temperatures around 70-80°F (21-27°C).
Pruning
Regularly pinch off the tips of the plant to encourage bushy growth.
Fertilizing
Use a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season.
Pests
Keep an eye out for pests and address them promptly with organic solutions if needed.
