Chennai on High Alert as Heavy Rainfall Predicted: Orange Alert Issued for December 2, 3
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Chennai and its neighbouring districts, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall on December 2 and 3.
The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for the rest of Tamil Nadu, warning of moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning.
The orange alert for Chennai means that there is a high probability of heavy rain, which could lead to flooding and waterlogging.
Residents of Chennai and the neighbouring districts are advised to be prepared for heavy rain and to take precautions to stay safe.
The IMD has also warned that the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours.
The low-pressure area is expected to intensify into a depression and move towards the coast of Tamil Nadu.
The IMD has advised people to stay indoors and avoid going out during the heavy rainfall. It has also asked people to be aware of the possibility of flooding and waterlogging.
