Passion on a Plate: The Tale of Penne Arrabbiata's Fiery Flavor

Ingredients:

1 pound penne pasta
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes 1 (28-ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes, crushed by hand

1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil

Instructions:

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package directions.

While the pasta is cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute, or until softened.

Add the crushed red pepper flakes and cook for 30 seconds more. Add the crushed tomatoes, salt, and pepper to the skillet.

Bring to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.

Drain the pasta and add it to the sauce. Toss to coat.

Stir in the basil and serve immediately.
