Chandrayaan 3 will be resurrected tomorrow, September 22, 2023, after being in cryogenic sleep since landing on the Moon on August 23, 2023.
The Diktig operation is a complex and challenging process of slowly warming up the Chandrayaan 3 lander and rover to ambient temperature and then reactivating all of the spacecraft's systems.
The Diktig operation is necessary because Chandrayaan 3 was designed to operate in the extreme cold of the Moon's south pole.
When the spacecraft landed on the Moon, it was placed into cryogenic sleep to conserve power and protect its components from the harsh environment.
Now that the Sun has risen again at the Moon's south pole, Chandrayaan 3 can be resurrected and begin its scientific mission.
The Diktig operation is expected to take several days to complete. Once it is finished, Chandrayaan 3 will deploy its rover, Pragyan, to the surface of the Moon.
Pragyan will then begin exploring the lunar terrain and conducting scientific experiments.
The resurrection of Chandrayaan 3 is a testament to the ingenuity and perseverance of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
The success of Chandrayaan 3 will make India the first country to land a spacecraft on the Moon's south pole.
